Well, well, well, look what I’ve gone and done now. I’ve decided to join in on the fun, that is the One Room Challenge. Are you asking what exactly is the One Room Challenge? It is a biannual (every spring and fall) challenge, where designers and home bloggers transform one space in eight weeks. What I’ve always loved is that, its not a competition, its a space to gain limitless design inspiration and share ideas. This is the 10th anniversary of the challenge and just so happens to be the first time I have signed up for it.
I know that I don’t normally talk about home design, but I’ve always had a love for design and DIY. Joining that challenge as a guest participant seems like a perfect way to meld the two area together. And let’s be honest, you know that I will have to throw a little organizing into the mix.
The space I settled on transforming is our entryway, both the interior and exterior. There are a few reasons I picked this space, foremost being, we are getting our windows replaced and that means the house is getting painted. No brainer right! So, lets take a look at what we’re working with.
Here she is in all her current… uh… glory.
She functions just fine, but she’s a bit boring for sure and the furnishings are leftovers from our last home. I also need to figure out what to do with the random angled wall.
To do list includes:
- New lighting
- New paint
- Wall molding
- Great piece of art
- New console
- Updated décor
Now let’s step out to the other side of the door.
Look, I don’t even know what to say other than, I didn’t do this. LOL. This is how she was when we bought her 3.5 years ago. The security door is unnecessary and it hits the light fixture. The paint color is drab and again the entire space is just a bit lackluster overall. Certainly not the first impression I want my home to give.
So, here is my to do list for the exterior:
- New lighting
- New paint
- Remove security door
- New door color & hardware
- Landscaping (possible fountain)
- Updated décor
There you have it folks, that’s the space I’ll be working on for the next 8 weeks. I know that there will be obstacles to overcome along the way, but the end result will be worth it. Next week I will be sharing my mood board with you, I cannot wait! If you would like to see the other participant spaces, you can check them out here.
Till next week…

You have a great starting place, really! Nice floors and molding, a sidelight window- just a nice blank slate. Have you considered having the console on the angled wall rather than the one by the door. You and your guests would have a little more space, the window wouldn’t be blocked and you can create a beautiful vignette on the console and wall that you can enjoy more than just when you are right at the door. I’m looking forward to following along!
